Man soll ja nicht so in Superlativen schwelgen, aber wer schonmal das große Vergnügen hatte, die durchweg sympathische Australierin live zu erleben, kommt daran für gewöhnlich nicht vorbei. 2014 schrieb jemand nach einem Konzert: “Prita darf getrost in einem Atemzug mit Performern wie Alanis Morisette, Pink, Amy Winehouse oder Melissa Etheridge genannt werden. Sie gehört zu den ganz Großen.”
Eine häufige Feststellung in Bezug auf Singer/SongwriterInnen ist, dass sie alle gleich klängen. Das ist natürlich Humbug, wie wir wissen – und PRITA klingt mal ganz anders! Sie kombiniert ihre Liebe zu Hip Hop, Soul & Folk zu einem ganz individuellen Sound: durch eine perfektionierte Performance mit dem Loop Pedal, ihrer Gitarre sowie hin und wieder der Stomp Box untermalt die charismatische Vollblut-Musikerin ihre warme, bluesige Gesangsstimme und erschafft so ihre ganz eigene Version einer One-Woman-Folk-Band.
PRITA’s Diskografie weist bisher fünf Veröffentlichungen auf: eine selbstbetitelte EP, ein “Bootleg Live”, eine weitere EP “After The Storm”, ihr erstes komplettes (“New Life”) und das aktuelle Album “Live in Düsseldorf”. Die Wahl-Berlinerin spielte im Vorprogramm von Simply Red und Marcia Hines sowie bei ausverkauften Shows mit John Paul Young, Ross ‘Eagle Rock’ Wilson, Paul Greene und weiteren namhaften Acts.

Als One-Woman-Show in Europa unterwegs

Die australische Singer-Songwriterin Prita Grealy hat Berlin zu ihrem Hauptquartier gemacht. Von dort aus organisiert sie ihre Konzerte in ganz Europa. Die Erfahrungen, die sie als Kneipenmusikerin in Pubs in Australien gesammelt hat, helfen ihr dabei.
Prita Grealy: “Das deutsche Publikum ist manchmal ruhiger, aber die Leute sind so respektvoll, sie hören wirklich zu und klatschen zwischen den Stücken und Du fühlst Dich wie ‘Oh sie verstehen Dich wirklich’.”
So warmherzige Reaktionen auf ihre Songs hat die 36-jährige Prita Grealy in ihrer australischen Heimat eher selten erlebt. Dort ist die Singer-Songwriterin jahrelang mit und ohne Band auf Tour gewesen auf der westlichen Seite des Kontinents von Perth aus, von wo sie stammt, hoch zu den kleineren Städten in den Norden. Teilweise acht Stunden monotone, schweißtreibende Autofahrten, nur um vor 30 Leuten zu spielen, für die die Musik im Pub nicht die Hauptattraktion war und die vor allem Cover berühmter Songs hören wollten.
“Cover-Band-Auftritte finden in der Regel in ziemlich lauten Pubs statt, vor vielen Leuten, die trinken und Spaß haben, aber nicht unbedingt zuhören oder sie wollen AC/DC hören oder Nirvana und ich musste immer lachen, Hey ich bin Singer-Songwriterin und ich bin eine One-Woman-Band und ihr wollt das ich Hardrock spiele? Es war irgendwie lustig, aber auch ein gutes Training, um eine bessere Show zu liefern.”
Berlin hat für sie die optimale Lage
Weil sie immer schon gerne reiste und sich dabei vor allem in Berlin wohlfühlte, hat es Prita Grealy vor drei Jahren dorthin verschlagen. Außerdem ist die geografische Lage im Herzen Europas optimal für die dunkelhaarige Frau mit den strahlenden türkisfarbenen Augen. Gerade mal zwei Stunden Flug und man ist in London, wenige Stunden bequem im klimatisierten Zug fahren und man ist wahlweise in Estland, Belgien oder der Schweiz.
Genau das richtige, wenn man wie Prita eine sehr nüchtern-realistische Vorstellung davon hat, wie man sich ein Publikum erspielt.
“Es ist doch einfach so, dass ein Großteil des potentiellen Publikums in entlegeneren Gebieten wohnt. Wenn Du zu ihnen reist, ist es einfacher, als wenn sie zu Dir kommen sollen. Du wirst bekannter, wenn Du Dich auf die Straße begibst, unterwegs bist, wenn Du zu den Leuten gehst, dorthin wo sie sind, zu ihnen in ihre Heimatstädte. Manchmal ist Dein Auftritt der einzige an dem Abend in dem Ort und wenn es eine kleine Stadt ist, dann kommen alle zu Dir, das ist ein großartiger Weg, um mehr Publikum zu bekommen.”
Prita tourt sozusagen sternförmig, kommt bald nach den Auftritten in ihr Hauptquartier zurück, hoch oben in einem der Hochhäuser am Spittelmarkt im Berliner Stadtteil Mitte, wo sie mit ihrem kubanischen Lebensgefährten wohnt. Die Australierin hat gerne den Überblick und auch leichtes Gepäck, weshalb sie schon einige Zeit ohne Band unterwegs ist und als One-Woman-Show auftritt.
“Für vier bis fünf andere Leute zu organisieren und zu planen, sodass jeder genug Arbeit hat, das hat mir zu viel Kopfschmerzen bereitet. Ich bevorzuge meine eigenen Touren zu planen oder einfach zu meinem Agenten Ja zu sagen und alles, was ich tun muss, ist meine eigenen Sachen zu packen und los.”
Obwohl sie als einzelne Musikerin mit Gitarre unterwegs ist, hat ihr Mix aus HipHop/Soul und Folk einen vollen Sound und Groove dank eines Loop-Pedals, das ihr auf der Bühne zu Füßen liegt. Ein kleines Gerät zum Anschließen ans Mikro, mit dem sie ihre Stimme beim Auftritt in Echtzeit aufnehmen und vervielfachen kann und von dem aus sie auch noch Beats und Rhythmus dazu spielt.
Fischen im Netz
Aber die Auftritte wollen erstmal organisiert sein. Zum täglichen Geschäft einer Vollzeitmusikerin gehört neben dem Schreiben neuer Songs vor allem das Fischen im Netz, wie sie es nennt.
“Ich suche immer nach Künstlern, die was Ähnliches machen wie ich und schaue, wo sie auftreten, und wenn ich die Musiker kenne, schreibe ich eine Mail an sie und frage, wie es dort war, ob sie es empfehlen können oder ich schreibe direkt an die Locations, stelle mich vor und sage, dass ich gerne dort spielen möchte.”

Vegesack. Die Gäste haben es sich im Café längst auf plüschigen Sofas oder an ovalen Kaffeetischen gemütlich gemacht. Inmitten von nostalgischen Lampen, anheimelnden Bücherregalen, urigen Hirschgeweihen und vergilbten Bildern wähnt sich der Konzertbesucher irgendwo zwischen einem 50er Jahre-Damenkränzchen und einem avantgardistischen Club.
Mit ihrer warmen, bluesigen Stimme erinnert die Wahlberlinerin Prita mitunter an Songwriterinnen wie Norah Jones und Katie Melua. Zum besonderen Hörerlebnis trägt das von der Australierin genutzte Loop-Pedal bei. Mit einem digitalen Sampler, den die Sängerin mit einem Pedal bedient, werden während des Auftritts aufgenommene Gesangsspuren oder Beatbox-Laute immer wieder gedoppelt und neu eingespielt. Das verblüffende Ergebnis: Der Zuschauer hat den akustischen Eindruck eines kleinen Orchesters samt Begleitchor, einer “One Woman Folkband”.
“Alles, was Sie heute hören, ist live gesungen”, versichert die Gitarristin, die ihre Musikrichtung als “Australian Hip Soul Folk Live Loops” bezeichnet. Birgit und Wolfgang Lucht, an diesem Abend im “Erlesenes” zu Gast, haben Prita bereits in Quelkhorn gesehen. “Ich hatte sofort Gänsehaut, sie ist so authentisch und unprätentiös” schwärmt Birgit Lucht.

Australierin gewinnt in Brake viele neue fans
Aussergewohnliches Konzert mit ‘Prita’ in der Walkenmuhle
Lemgo-Brake. Die junge Sangerin und Songwriterin ‘Prita’ hat den Gasten im Cafe Walkenmuhle einen exzellenten Musikabend beschert. Die Kunstlerin aus ‘Down Under’ uberzeugte mit einem erfrishchenden Programm ihrer selbst geschriebenen songs.
Die ganz besondere Mischung von Hip-Hop, Soul und Folk – gepaart mit dem Einsatz von Akustikgitarre und dem ‘Live Looping Pedal’ (siehe Infokasten) – liesskeinen Zuhorer unberuhrt. Dazu nutzte die Solo kunsterlerin Elemente von Beat Boxing und uberzeugte durch ein ablolutes Rhythmusgefuhl.
Mit ihrer souligen, klaren Stimme erzahlte ‘Prita’ Geschichten aus ihrem Leben. Mit Titeln wie ‘Blue for you’ verarbeitet sie den Tod des Grossvaters oder regt mit ‘Refugees’ (Fluchtlinge) zum Nachdenken an. Sie setzt aber auch mit Liedern wie dem frohlichen ‘Cowboy Song’ eben diesen Jungs, die sie wahrend ihres USA- Aufenthaltes kennen gelertnt hat, ein kleines musikalisches Denkmal.
Dabei sucht die Entertainerin immer den Kontakt zum publikum, plaudert und lacht in ihrer unkomplizierten, offenen Art. Gleichzeitig aber versinkt sie wahrend der Songs vollkommen in ihre Leidenschaft zur Musik. Dabei verbindet sie scheinbar muhelos vielschichtige Harmonien, die zweifelsfrei an ihre Vorbilder wie Tracy Chapman oder Norah Jones erinnern.
Die ansteckende Vitalitat und Musikalitat liess keinen Gast in der voll besetzten Walkenmuhle ruhig sitzen.Mit einem lang anhaltenden Applaus belohntne die begeisterten Zuhorer die aussergewohnliche sangerin. Ihrerseits lobte die junge Kunstlerin aus Fremantle, Westaustralien, geradezu uberschwanglich ihr Braker Publikum. Dabei hat sie im Vorprogramm von Simply Red schon vor Tausenden gespielt. Diesen Abend in Brake aber liess Prita Grealy, so ihr vollstandiger Name, zufrieden und entspannt mit einigen ihrer neuen Fans in der Walkenmuhle ausklingen.

The young singer and songwriter “Prita” gave an excellent music evening to the guests of the “Walkenmühle”. The artist from “Down under” convinced with a refreshing program of her self- written songs .
The very special mixture of hip-hop, soul and folk- supported by acoustic-guitar and live loop pedal (information special) – touched everybody of the audience. And the solo artist takes elements of beat boxing and convinced with an absolutely feeling of rhythm.
With her souly, clear voice Prita tells stories of her life. With titles like “Blue for you” she remembers the death of her beloved grandfather, or inspirited for thinking about with the song “refugees”. With the cheery “cowboy song” the remembers this smart boys at her time in the U.S.A. All the time the young entertain lady looked for contact to the audience, talk to them and laughed a lot in her open ,uncomplicated character. In the same way she always goes to the bottom of her heart in her passion to music. She connects seemingly effortless difficult harmonies which remembers of course to her idols like Tracy Chapman and Norah Jones.
No visitor was not infected by her vitality and her musicality. With an long applause the audience rewarded the remarkable/extraordinary (means very special I think- sorry my English…) singer. The young artist from Freemantle, Westaustralia, by herself gave a lot of compliments to her audience.

“‘Prita hailing from Australia gave us a dynamic, full of originality performance covering several genres effectively incorporating live loops which added numerous layers of extra vocals and guitar to some numbers, not used all the time and for some songs we just simply had Prita’s gorgeous voice and guitar work flowing over us.. Of the many different influences to her work the one that stood out for me was Tracy Chapman especially during the powerful ‘My Home’ her take on the refugee/boat people issues in Australia and the fact that apart from the Aborigines everyone in the country arrived on a boat or plane. One of the most original pieces of stage craft I have witnessed at a show occurred during this set when Prita invited a member of the audience onto the stage and asked him to say any words he liked into the live loop machine, she would then incorporate the repeating recorded words into a song. -Andrew Lock ”
